Laser capillary closure

Laser capillary closure

Acne rosacea, telangiestasia, spider veins and other dermatological events caused by dilated blood vessels, particularly on the face, are a source of psychological discomfort. A lowered sense of attractiveness affects the whole life of many patients – from personal to professional.

What are the advantages of laser vessel closure?

Laser vessel closure enables correction of various types of vascular changes that achieve a satisfactory esthetic effect. Well-being and self-esteem of patients also improves significantly. The treatment has a low risk of complications and is a safe way to deal with the problems of skin imperfections. Closing of vessels on the legs is an attractive alternative to sclerotherapy. Depending on a particular case, it is necessary to execute one or several treatments distributed over a period of weeks. A big advantage of this method is the small amount of pain associated with the treatment – patients usually only experience a burning sensation, which is not very severe. Although swelling or bruising may appear after the procedure, it will eventually gradually disappear after a few hours or days.

What happens during the first visit at the doctor for vessel closure?

Laser vessel closure requires prior consultation. The goal of the visit is to learn about the patient’s problem further, his general health and the general course of the treatment. The doctor is able to define achievable effects and possible side effects based on his knowledge.

What is the course of laser vessel closure?

Patients should hydrate their bodies adequately several hours before the procedure –it is recommended to drink a couple glasses of water. Replenishment of fluids lowers the risk of side effect occurrence. The day before laser capillary closure, alcohol consumption and engaging in sports that cause dehydration is forbidden.

The procedure typically lasts about fifteen to twenty minutes, but can last longer – depending on the area to be treated, sensitivity of the patient and the nature of dermatological changes. Shortly before the procedure is carried out, the patient and the doctor put on special protective glasses. Proper procedure is preceded by a test that allows determining optimum laser power for the patient.
The laser that is used to perform the treatment emits a beam of light that reaches blood vessels, is absorbed by hemoglobin – a dye that red blood cells contain. As a result of thermal decomposition, thermal energy is produced, which dries the walls of the blood vessel. Water that is in the vessels evaporates, vessels dry up and then collapse and die. They are absorbed by the body within a short period of time that is why they quickly disappear from the face. Adjustable laser wavelength allows closing vessels of different sizes and locations (depths).

One treatment is enough to remove small, single vessels. However, rosy cheeks with a tight cluster of broken capillaries may require several repetitions (2-3). Similar procedure is applied with the closure of blue-green veins (up to 5mm in diameter) located on the legs.

How should you proceed after laser vessel closure?

Patients after laser vessel closure should avoid sun exposure, especially sun tanning. It is also not recommended to do exercises or sports that may expose the skin to damage. It is not advisable to have massages, visit the sun tanning studio, sauna and taking hot baths. We recommend using ointments and cosmetics that accelerate the healing process and strengthen the skin and using preparations containing vitamin B2, C and PP for about a month.

  • Pregnancy
  • Diabetes
  • Epilepsy
  • Taking medicine that increases light sensitivity.
  • Taking medicine that reduces blood clotting
  • A fresh tan (you cannot sun tan a month before and after)
  • Mechanical damage to the skin
  • Blood clotting disorders.
