Breast Lifting
With age, successive pregnancies, periods of lactation and breastfeeding, a woman’s breasts, their skin in particular, loses elasticity triggering the slow process of pstosis. This results in the appearance of many insecurities and in effect greatly reducing self-esteem. This affects women’s everyday well-being and quality of intimate life. Mastopexy, or surgical breast lifting, restores their former position, appearance and attractiveness. The surgery is performed on women of almost any age and the only prerequisite is good general health.
What to expect during surgery?
Before performing the breast lifting surgery, a physical examination and necessary diagnostic tests must be carried out. During the first visit with the doctor, the patient talks about the course of the surgery and the desired effect. The goal of the first visit is to become familiar with the patient’s medical history and becoming familiar with possible side effects of the surgery. It is important to realize that there will be scaring as a result of the surgery. Depending on medical indications, breast lifting is carried out with local or general anesthesia. The procedure usually lasts from two to three hours and involves making a cut around the nipple to allow the removal of excess skin and modeling the shape and position of the breasts. Once the wound is closed with stitches, bandages are applied.
How to proceed after the surgery?
Stitches are removed after about two weeks. The area should be massaged and a preparation indicated by the doctor should be applied during this time. Return to work is not possible within the first week after surgery. Swelling and bruising that may appear as a result of the surgery will disappear within a few weeks. It is necessary to wear a special bra during convalescence. In the first two weeks after surgery, the patient must avoid physical activity, sudden movements and lifting heavy objects. Physical activity and the risk involved with the skin stretching has an effect on the speed and manner of healing. Stretched skin may widen the scar. Note that the desired esthetic effect cannot be evaluated not earlier than half a year after breast lift surgery. Only after this time, scars obtain a natural, similar to surrounding skin colour, and breasts take natural shape. Breast lift is a relatively safe surgery, but is not free from risks or side effects. Most common are hematoma, infections and pain. Note that breast lift does not eliminate asymmetry.
