Surgical removal of birthmarks, lipoma, atheroma

Most commonly surgically removed skin lesions are papilla, sebaceous cysts, warts, lipomas, cysts and fibroids. They usually affect the hands, face, neck and torso, which greatly affect the physical appearance of the patient. Health and esthetic considerations are the main indications for their removal. Some of them may lead to skin cancer, especially if they are not diagnosed and treated in the early stage of development. Hence, proper prophylactic care is fundamental for state of health.

What causes lesions to arise?

Note that skin lesions often occur with age as a result of sun exposure, have a genetic background and are often closely related with a contaminated environment or occupational diseases.
Due to their nature, they greatly impinge on self-esteem. They are the source of many insecurities and significant psychological pain, that is why circumstances of psychological nature are another reason to have them removed.

Course of treatment and convalescence

Treatment is carried out after a few tests have been made and a medical examination has been carried out, where the doctor becomes familiar with the patient’s health and the course of the disease. The duration of the treatment usually does not exceed one hour. Removed lesions undergo regular histopathological examination which provides their definite nature, especially that they are not characteristic of a malignant tumor.

How to proceed after the surgery?

It is crucial to maintain proper hygiene of wounds during healing, especially changing the surgical bandage regularly. Healed skin cannot be exposed to sunlight for at least half a year. A follow up visit is necessary two weeks after the procedure.
